Since 2001, Jacqueline Cossentino has served as the Head of Williamsburg Montessori School -- where her son is a student. She is also an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Maryland. Since relocating to Williamsburg three years ago, Dr. Cossentino has focused her research on teaching and learning within the Montessori method. Current interests include Montessori's vision of child development and the role of "work" in early childhood learning. Dr. Cossentino is the author of several articles on teaching, teachers and the process of school reform as well as a forthcoming book, Talking About a Revolution The Languages of Educational Reform. She is married and has one son.

Iodine Deficiency     Part 1 of 3

In 1994, Kiwanis launched its first worldwide service project - a $75 million campaign in partnership with UNICEF to eliminate iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) - the world's leading preventable cause of mental retardation. More than 1.5 billion people - especially young children, are at risk of suffering IDD because there is not sufficient iodine in their diet. Due to the efforts of Kiwanis, many parents affected by IDD are able to watch their children grow up healthy and reach their full mental and physical potential. Results of the Kiwanis IDD program will continue to benefit future generations.
