Speaker: Horace
Van Smith
From December 2003 to June 2004, Horace Van Smith (William
and Mary Class of 2003) served in the U. S. Ministry of Interior for the
Coalition Provisional Authority, the organization responsible for rebuilding
the Iraqi government and transfering sovereignty to the Iraqi people in June.
During his tour, Van worked as a Policy Advisor and Liaison to the Civil
Defense, the Fire and Emergency Services division of the Ministry of
Interior. Van received a BA in Government and now attends Marshall-Wythe
School of Law. He is a native of Chesterfield County, VA where his parents
still live.
