Did You Know?  --  Education:  Children and Media Violence, Part 3 of 4: As the leading service organization serving the Children of the World, Kiwanis must take a proactive leadership role in helping implement a plan of action to protect children from unhealthy media culture. Meaningful acts by societies are necessary to positive change so that:  children are taught to be critical viewers of media violence;  parents are supported in helping children make constructive use of media;  the media is held responsible for helping serve children by providing exposure to pro-social material and preventing exposure to violent material.

BIRTHDAYS
September 29 - October 5

Announcements

Upcoming Kiwanis events

-Polo Match on October 10.  www.colonialpolocup.org

- The club will be selling quality Outer Banks brand shirt embroidered with the Colonial Polo Cup Logo at the event in October.  Members interested in purchasing a shirt should let Tom Jordan know asap with a size request since we need to place the order soon to have them done in time.  A special price for members will be $20 for shirts through size X Large (at the event they will sell for $25.00 to the public).  There is a surcharge for 2XL and larger.  The shirt is available in both mens and ladies sizing.  We are trying to limit our financial exposure on this first year, so we will only be ordering a small quantity.
- Kiwanis Advisors:  Club has three openings for Kiwanis Advisors that need to be filled -- JHS Key Club, Walsingham Builders Club and Walsingham K-Kids Club.  The advisor jobs are not demanding but important - and are required for our clubs to retain their charter.  This is a good chance to help our K-Family clubs who do so much for their schools and our community.  And it's fun.  Please contact Tom French 565-1138 or jtfrench@aol.com.
-KICK IT (Kiwanis Integrates Circle K Initiatives and Teamwork):  A chance to team with a member of our W&M Circle K Club for the school year.  We have 17 teams established but there is an opportunity for more as more Circle K members are eager to get involved with this partnership.  It involves sharing board meetings, general meetings, serviced and fundraising projects and any kind of social activity.  A good opportunity for new members.  Please contact Tom French.

THOUGHTS TO PONDER

"In the final analysis, it's not what you do for children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves that will make them successful human beings."  (Ann Landers)
