Club will also have a presentation from Carol McCartney of the Arthritis Foundation regarding the Foundation’s First Annual 5K “Walk for Awareness” scheduled Saturday, May 8 - Governor’s Land.  Registration- 7:30AM;  Walk scheduled from 9:00-10:00AM.  There is also a one-mile course for those with disabilities.  The Walk is made up of teams from businesses, private individuals, and service organizations.  Each team consists of 5 or more people with each walker raising at least $100.  If you are one of the 27,000 people in the Williamsburg area who suffers from arthritis, you will also receive a hat and be invited to lead the Walk.  Ms. McCartney will ask the Club to support the Walk.  
The Arthritis Foundation was established in 1948 by a group of prominent scientists and physicians.  It is the only national voluntary health agency seeking the causes, cures, preventions and treatments for the more than 100 forms of arthritis. 
The Virginia Chapter, headquartered in Richmond, has responsibilities for programming and fundraising which includes exercise programs, such as the aquatic program at James City Williamsburg Community Center and innovative approaches to treating children with juvenile arthritis.

Education -- Leave of Absence:  Request for leave of absence must be submitted in writing to the club secretary. Leaves for 30 days to six months or longer are granted for reasons of illness, business assignments, travel, military service, or when moving to a new locality prior to joining a new Kiwanis Club. Leaves do not relieve members from dues or meal charges for meetings.
