  Program:  - Proposed $2 Lodging Assessment on Area Hotels
Speakers:   Bob Hershberger, Executive VP, Chamber of Commerce
Cathy Chaplain, President of the Convention and Visitors Bureau

Bob Hershberger is the Executive Vice President of the Williamsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, a position he has held for nearly 18 years.  During his tenure the Chamber has grown in membership from just over 300 members to almost 900 today.  Bob has previous experience with the Virginia Peninsula and Hampton Roads chamber organizations.  Commissioned into the United States Air Force, he completed 25 years of service - 13 years on active duty and 12 in the reserves before retiring in 1996.  Bob has served on the boards of a number of local organizations and is a member and past president of the Williamsburg Rotary Club.

Cathy became Chair of the Convention & Visitors Bureau's Executive Committee on October 1. For the past four years she has worked as Director of Sales at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel & Suites.  She previously worked as Director of Sales at the Holiday Inn 1776.  Before coming to Williamsburg she had spent her career in hotel sales in Virginia Beach.

Education --Kiwanis International Foundation - Part 1 of 5:  Kiwanis International mailed 5,000 surveys to U.S. members and received 1792 responses, with the following results:  Why did you join Kiwanis? (Respondents could select more than one answer)
Local service 28.6%;  Friends 29%;  Networking 16.7%;  International service 1.5%;  Kiwanis reputation 16%;  Other 8.2%
Members 18 to 54 years old value networking higher than do members 55 years old and older, who rank friends as their most important reason for joining.

- Kiwanis Christmas Party this Friday, December 19 - Hospitality House.  Please contact Carol Copenhaver for all details.
- Board meeting tomorrow, Thursday, December 18 - 5:30 PM, Williamsburg Landing.  All Officers, Board members and Committee Chairs are encouraged to attend.
- Salvation Army Bell Ringing.  See Artie Bornschein for sign up.  Two hour shifts are needed -- December 20 at either K-Mart or Walmart.
- Please not there will be no meetings on December 24 or December 31.
